Mauritius – a tropical paradise for everyone

Updated: 5 days ago

Mauritius is a tropical island in the Indian ocean east of Madagascar, with a reputation for its luxurious hotels and famous resorts. However, Mauritius now easily caters for all budgets and taste, so there is nothing to stop you enjoying this island too!  Whether you are looking for a peaceful break, an action-packed time or a cultural exploration, Mauritius offers something for everyone with year-round sunshine. Hop on a direct flight and be there in 12 hours.

Mauritius offers stunning picturesque beaches and clear turquoise waters. Places like Belle Mare, Trou aux Biches, and Le Morne offer some of the most beautiful settings for relaxation and water activities. But it's not just about the beaches, Mauritius is also home to stunning mountains, botanical gardens, wildlife reserves and marine parks. You may encounter rare birds like the Mauritius kestrel and pink pigeon, as well as giant tortoises and colourful geckos.

For the active amongst you, you won’t be bored! How about exploring marine life whilst underwater walking (I know!), snorkelling or diving too.  Get the adrenaline pumping with water skiing or parasailing, hike in the mountains and through gorges spotting the waterfalls along the way, horse ride on beautiful beaches and zip-line though forests or how about a round of golf with a view? You will be spoilt for choice.

The most unique thing is the truly diverse peaceful culture that is noticeable everywhere. The island is influenced by India, Africa, Europe, and Chinese, which means a blend of excellent history, culture, and cuisine to delve into. The local people are noticeably friendly and hospitable, so you’ll feel comfortable and right at home straight away. The island is also considered very safe with low crime levels and politically stable.

Don't forget to take some time to explore the rich history through its colonial architecture, historic sites, and museums. Learn about the Dutch, French, and British colonial periods, as well as the island's role in the spice trade and sugar industry. This includes sugar and rum tasting!

The variety and quality of food is also excellent. Creole dishes, Indian curries, Chinese stir-fries, and French pastries are all part of the culinary experience. You must try the local specialties like dholl puri (a lentil pancake type disk with vegetable curry inside), gateaux piment (chilli cake), and seafood delicacies. There are food trucks scattered across the island within the towns and on the beaches.

What are you waiting for?!
