Where to stay (quickly):
West (Lagos/Alvor): dramatic cliffs, coves, boat/kayak trips.
Central (Carvoeiro/Albufeira): best for resort pools + easy beach-hopping.
East (Tavira/Olhão): calmer towns, island beaches via ferry.
Getting around:
Fly to Faro (FAO) — the region’s hub. Faro Airport
Drive for maximum freedom. Good news: A22 motorway tolls were scrapped from Jan 1, 2025, making zipping along the coast cheaper/easier. The Portugal NewsAmn
No car? The coastal Algarve line connects Lagos ↔ Faro ↔ Tavira (regional trains; check CP for times). Vamus runs the main intercity buses (plus the Aerobus). CP.PT | Comboios de Portugalvamus.pt

Octopus from Santa Luzia (east),
Piri-piri chicken in Guia (the Algarve’s classic; ask for “frango piri-piri”).
